President's Message
Welcome to the website of the Greater Salt Lake Alumnae Chapter (GSLAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I am honored to serve as the 17th President of this dynamic and dedicated chapter, comprised of college educated women from many professional fields, such as education, medicine, state and federal government and business, across the beautiful Wasatch mountains of Utah!
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, was founded on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913 by 22 women. These amazing trailblazers were on a mission to promote academic excellence and to provide for those in need. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community.
In our 36 years in Ogden and Salt Lake communities, the Greater Salt Lake Alumnae Chapter aligns its work in these communities around the sorority's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement. We have strong partnerships with community agencies such as the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, Northern Utah HIV/AIDS Coalition and Project Success Coalition. Our signature programs are the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and Delta GEMS. These programs center around the mentoring of the young girls within our community, ages 11-18, offering activities around self-esteem, STEM and achieving academic excellence.
I invite you to visit our website regularly for updates on upcoming programs and events. Please share information about our initiatives with your networks and join us in participating in the various activities we organize for our community. Remember to follow us on your social media platforms!
We welcome the opportunity to partner with organizations that align with our purpose. If you are interested, feel free to reach out through our Contact tab.
Thank you for visiting our website! We can’t wait to see you as we actively work together to serve our community.
Yours in Service,
Rev. Denise Elbert
